Eagle Scout #2

We got to attend the Court of Honor for our second (and last, praise be! haha) Eagle Scout! (And I'm feeling grateful now that we got to do this before everything closed down for coronavirus!) I know I have already griped long enough about how the Scout Office lost his Eagle paperwork—actually, no, I don't know if I CAN possibly gripe enough about that—but never mind, we will leave it gracefully in the past, except to say that I am very proud of Seb for persevering even through the tortuous thorns of bureaucracy. This was not a case of his mother getting his Eagle Scout Award for him (though, I must say, it sometimes takes an awful lot of encouragement to help a teenager do something "by himself," so I'll go ahead and accept some credit for that)—he worked hard and learned a lot of good things in the process.

Abe's Court of Honor a couple years ago was a very different thing than Seb's, which is fitting, I guess, since they are different boys. This one was cool because there were TEN BOYS getting their Eagle awards together! All from this last "graduating class" of Scouts before the church left the BSA. It was fun to celebrate them all together. They had a live eagle and everything!
They had a slide show as part of the program, with pictures of the boys doing Scout things over the years. I didn't have many of those (not having been present at most of those Scout things)—but I did have these:
Cute little baby Sebby! Can you believe he went from that to…this?:
They also wanted a picture of each boy with his mother, which we did not have. When I recruited Sam to take one of us, Seb was…not thrilled:
We got him to crack a smile eventually, using our Secret Parent Methods. But it wasn't easy!
Eagle's Nest. Thanks to Max for being the one person who was looking at me! :)
I wore my bird shirt. It seemed the right thing to do.
Seb with my mom, a better Scouter than I ever was.
And a gratuitous Grandma and Gussie shot.
Seb and Ziggy. I'm so glad my little boys have such good big boys to look up to!

  1. Well that’s a lucky thing! That you had baby Seb in scouting gear!

And the bird shirt! You know I love swallows! They have always been my favorite bird. Well. Until Starling was born. Then swallows moved to second. But still!!!!

    1. Well. Of course, it simply requires planning ahead. "Someday I will use these pictures in his eventual Eagle Court of Honor," I said to myself 12 years ago. And now, here we are! (ha ha ha)

  2. Congratulations to you all. :) Not one of my little boys will be a scout, and I'm quite sorry for that. My husband, an eagle scout, however, says he's not sorry a bit! I think it is marvelous what you and your boy have accomplished.

    1. It is strange to think we are now at the end of that scouting era! I wonder if the idea of an Eagle Scout will even be known about or important by the time my own kids have kids?
