On top of this ball there are the most beautiful views! We love to climb to the top and look around.
One day we had a picnic on the Bally Hill. It was interesting, because it was a warm-ish May Day, but on top of the hill it was almost cold. It felt like the temperature had dropped 10 degrees when we got up there!
Gussie didn't mind the chill, being bundled up in a blanket as he was.
Sam and Seb, obviously, had to have an involved discussion about various geological features visible on the distant mountains.
It was a nice day!
Another adventure we went on was part of Sam's plans for our anniversary. He wanted to celebrate all of the school field trips we've taken the kids on together over the years, so we went back to one of our favorite places to find rocks, near Vernon, Utah. There's a place you can collect "wonderstone," which is a beautiful rock with colorful bands and stripes on it (like this). We've been there at least twice before (maybe three times?), but Sam hasn't actually been there with us, so it was fun to have him along!
The variations in the bands are so numerous and unpredictable! Some are spirals, some are stripes, some are more like waves. Every rock is different, which makes finding them really fun.
This one looked like a face.
And this was one of my favorites—look at those tiny delicate swirls! As small and precise as the lines that make up someone's fingerprint!
We didn't take the bigger boys (who have done it all before, yawn) and that was nice because it allowed the younger ones to be as excited as they wanted to, with no one grumping at them to hurry up or stop chattering or stop using the rock hammer wrong. We quite enjoyed it. Teddy felt very serious and grown-up, and quite proud of his rock hammering skills!
A pale monochrome rainbow.
We had lots of fun and enjoyed "social distancing" at its finest! :)
Such lovely outings. You take beautiful, beautiful pictures.
