Bright July flowers

It has been quite hot lately and all the nice green mountains are starting to turn brown.  I love the flowers that come out this time of year, so bright and sturdy.  It amazes me that anything can flourish in such hot weather! Although I suppose we are not THAT hot, as climates go.
Delphiniums are some of my favorites, and these are such a deep blue!  Gorgeous.  The ones in my yard are a wan-looking sort of indigo.

Serious (and a bit disapproving?)

Bright!

I like these flowers that look like fireworks . . .

and does it surprise anyone that they inspired Seb to BE a firework?

Sad sitters-in-time-out (it's not all fun and games around here).
(Sometimes their sad expressions make me laugh; is that so wrong?)

On a happier note, fwuffball bush!

  1. It looks so different now--just a month and a half later. Heat. And, what is the name of that bush? Smoketree? Cotinus something...latin name? That would be fun to have. Were those firework flowers alliums? Also fun. Trying to plan softscape now...would like some plants like that...and that marshmallow tree. :)

  2. Allison: I'm amazed at how many flower names you know or even half-know. :) I will try to find out the name of the fluffball bush next time we go, but yes, I think the fireworks are alliums. You have a lot of those around, don't you? I can't wait to see your yard!

  3. I laughed out loud at Ky's sad face, so if that makes us both evil at least we'll be in good company.

  4. Lovely. And I see no disapproval in that face. I must admit that I, too, tend to get a pretty good laugh out of miserable time-out faces. So I'm not the one to tell you that you're a mean, mean mama -
