Parc Valéro Les Écarts

We have been to the island so many times, it's kind of funny that we haven't been over the other bridge to Lévis (on the south bank of the Saint Lawrence) very often! We drove down to Montreal that way the first time we went to the temple. And we've been over a couple other times. But it takes long enough to get there that we haven't done it a lot. So it was fun to visit this pretty bike and hiking park (bikers and hikers on separate trails, luckily, ha!) one day when the girls had a Jeunes Filles activity and we had to go that direction anyway!
This place is just about directly across the river from us but because you have to take the bridge, it ends up being a 40-minute drive! You could take the ferry but that's not really faster. Apparently they debate building more bridges frequently but it is very controversial. ("You don't want to even get in a conversation about it!" my friend in the branch warned me, haha)
We saw so many pretty forested areas while driving around during October, and my great desire was to find a way to actually walk in among some of those trees. This was a perfect place to do so!
I love it when there are just as many leaves on the ground as on the trees.
It was such a beautiful place; I haven't been anywhere quite like it. There were a bunch of rocky areas like this one where there were small ridges and little caves, but the trees still covered everything really thickly. I guess I'm used to there either being rocks or trees but not both!
A little chickadee (or something; he looks like a chickadee to me) joined us
King of the hill
Hey, whose thumb is that? Ziggy's, I suppose?
I love the huge mossy rocks
It was such a warm day. Ah, I am feeling nostalgic thinking about it (on this freezing day).
The leaves on the ground were so thick!
Cool green mushrooms of some kind
Such a tiny girl (who insisted on running ahead through the trees!)
Afterwards we sought out some ice cream at Fromagerie Victoria. Yum!
Then we went and waited for the girls to finish their activity, and the parking lot of the house where they were was covered with beautiful leaves too! So the little ones had a good time playing while we waited.
Flame-leaf
So fun. What a beautiful place Québec is in the Fall!

  1. I remember that same strangeness, living in Ridgefield, WA right along the Columbia River of it taking 45 minutes to an hour to get to a city directly across the river from us.

I’m so glad you experienced fall so fully up there. I feel like I sort of missed it this year! No big trees right by the rental like we had at our old house, and we didn’t get out on any real hikes, so fall just sort of snuck by. 😪
