Woona, earthquakes, kitchen tools

Let's see what pictures I have hanging around from July. This one is of Clementine and her little friend Luna from our ward. Luna's mom speaks German to her and her dad speaks Spanish to her, and she doesn't know any English. But that doesn't stop her and Clementine at all. They jabber to each other, Clementine in English and Luna in German, and they seem perfectly happy about it! I also love how Clementine says Luna's name. "Mommy, wook, there is my friend Woona!"
Daisy cooks dinner for us on Wednesday nights. Here was something yummy she made recently (ravioli with red pepper sauce and burrata).
The girls and I went to see "An American in Paris" at the Hale Center. The female lead part was played by a real ballerina from Ballet West and she was SO GOOD. You couldn't even take your eyes off of her. The male lead wasn't as good as she was, but they were good together, so it was fun to watch.
Making earthquake-proof structures while learning about Natural Disasters. This one was pretty good!
This one was good too
And so was this.
This, on the other hand…not so good.
Amd Clementine just made gnome after gnome. (How does she know how to make a marshmallow-and-toothpick gnome? She just does. Pure instinct, apparently.)
The ol' tornado in a bottle
Pretty sky!
I think I already mentioned that Junie got six weeks of ice skating lessons for her birthday? They finally started in mid-June and it was super fun to watch her. She really has such a natural talent for it! Everyone she told about it thought it was weird to go off to the ice skating rink in July, but it was the best thing ever. We would walk into the Olympic Oval out of the 100º weather and the temperature would drop immediately. Out next to the ice it was usually 60º or so, and it felt heavenly. I just sat there thinking "Ahhh, ahhh, ahhhh, this is wonderful!!" blissfully during the whole hour we were there. I think we ought to schedule ice skating lessons every summer!

Here are some pictures from the six weeks.
Junie with Saylor, the other girl in her class
Daisy and Malachi and Sam and I went to BYU for a Campus Tour, one of those where you get to drive around on a golf cart. I've done them a few times before, way back when I was a little girl, and even though I practically grew up on BYU Campus so I didn't really need a tour, I always thought it was so fun! It was fun this time too. Daisy thought the miniature model of BYU Campus was so cute! The tiny stadium! The tiny bell tower! Everything in such detail! It is really cute.
Beautiful flowers outside the Hinckley Building
Malachi, as you can see, was thrilled to have his picture taken afterwards.
While we were visiting my friend Rachael, she cut apples using a little apple slicer tool. I said I had never seen such an instrument. A few days after we got home, this little fellow appeared in a box in our mailbox! The funny part of that is, we had also made some lemon frosting while at Rachael's house, in the course of which I discovered she didn't have a microplane grater to zest lemons with, and I had immediately gone home and ordered her one of those for her kitchen! Haha. Kitchen tools: Rachael's and my love language.
Here's Sam teaching his Activity Day boys how to build a fire. They loved it!
Ziggy and Gus made a little nest for the Caws outside in the grass. I do NOT know why Gus is making that face. He was not, contrary to all appearances, in horrible anguish.
Clementine setting the table
Playing ladderball under a pretty sunset
Twin girls (and Goldie and their friend Amelia) going to the temple
Sleepy
Gus's amazingly detailed garbage truck (words copied from a book)
Beautiful clouds!!
Another Family Home Evening ladderball tournament (ladderball was our game of choice this summer)
Boys hiding in the tall grasses (with mittens??)
THIS is how much Gus likes bananas (which he called "bee-nanas" for the longest time, and I'm so sad he stopped). Look at his shining eyes and delighted face! How can anyone resist feeding him bananas whenever he wants them? He always runs downstairs and shares a bite of banana with Nutmeg too (Nutmeg loves bananas!).

It was super cute because Teddy paid Gus some money to help with the weeding one week, so Gus had a couple dollars he wanted to spend, and when I asked him what he wanted to buy he said, "I hope I have enough money to buy a banana." I was so charmed by the idea of him walking into the grocery store and buying one banana. I wish he had done it! Teddy took him to the grocery store (in walking distance of our house)…
…but when the time actually came, Gus chose strawberry milk instead. Well! It was well-deserved, either way!
