Lifeguards, Dinosaurs, Squished

In July we went to do baptisms at the Provo City Center Temple. I was hoping the whole family (well, all the ones old enough) could come, but it turned out the boys couldn't, so it was just Sam, me, and Daisy. That was fun too.
On Pioneer Day we couldn't face paying a million dollars to drive the van down to Provo (gas was $5.60 a gallon!) for my mom's ward's ice cream party, so we made our own homemade ice cream and had a picnic at a park. It was so hot! But we stood it for a while. Clementine and Gus crawled around on the grass.
The playground was pretty with the sun coming through it, like stained glass.

The ice cream was good! Vanilla-caramel swirl. I poured it into a pan for easier swirling.
Our neighbors gave Ziggy some pop-its (all our neighbors love Ziggy; it's so cute) so the kids did those. A fun Pioneer Day!

These boys rang the doorbell Sunday after church. "We’re missionaries, and usually we teach the gospel, but today we just want to come in and see what toys you have."
Needless to say I let them in.

We used our Thanksgiving Point pass to go see the dinosaur statues in the gardens. We went for Family Home Evening and it was one of those times where there was…opposition…and I didn't think everyone would come with us. (Oh wait…that's…every time.) But then everyone DID come and I was so happy! We liked the dinosaurs, everyone was relatively cheerful, and it just felt so good to have the family together! I'm grateful for that every time it happens, these days.
The dinosaurs were funny. Big animatronic statues that moved their heads back and forth slowly and blinked their eyes.
Gus wasn't scared. Just interested.
Zig didn't mind standing under this one's huge neck!
This little volcano puffed out fire. Fun.

My four cute girls!

We saw a sweeper truck going by our house one day. Very exciting! Luckily the little boys were all outside.

We had a couple cousins come to stay over for a few days in August. Somehow this is the only picture I got? I just love the shape of Junie's body here.

Seb worked as a lifeguard all summer and Ziggy became obsessed with pretending he was a lifeguard too. Daisy made him a lifeguard costume early on in the summer (I think I showed it in another post) and he wore it nonstop. (Gus joined him occasionally.) Seb thought it was really cute, and was secretly kind of flattered, I think. :)

Whenever we went to the pool, Zig would wave at the lifeguards and yell "Hi!" at them as if they were celebrities, and if they waved back (which some did; Zig's reputation spread because some would even say "Hi, Ziggy!) he was so pleased. Even there at the pool, he would sit motionless on the side with his eyes fixed on the water, guarding for all he was worth.
One day I found this picture Zig had drawn of all the parts of his precious costume: shirt, shorts, red cross patch, and whistle. (Someone must have helped him write "guard" on that tube on top.)

Here we are at the pool with the man himself at lifeguard! We were all excited to hear him blow his whistle, but then he didn't have any occasion to! Very disappointing. We should have had someone run on the pool deck or something.
Nice back float, Teddy!

Another pool visit. Amusing themselves while waiting to get back into the swimming pool.

Being lifeguards, of course

Gussie is going through this phase where he wants to scoot up right next to you if he's by you at the table. It's so funny. He scoots and scoots and scoots until you can't even move your arm to eat. And he's usually fairly sticky, too, but you can't bear to move away because he's just so cute about it! Sometimes he ends up all the way on one of the girls' laps. I remember Goldie doing that to me when she was his age. She'd say, "I'm bein' by you."
Now she's getting a taste of her own medicine!

  1. There are many wonderful things here, but mostly I just think that missionary door approach is marvelous! You ought to tell Abe to give it a try!
