Ziggy, that smart little hat-wearing bundle of curiosity and make-believe, is turning into a young man capable of choosing the right and making covenants with Heavenly Father. It seems to have happened so fast, and yet I can't deny that he is starting to seem ready for it—asking questions about Jesus, wondering about right and wrong, thinking about good and evil. Malachi gave the baptism talk and started with, "Ziggy, now you are big. Now no one can tell you that you aren't big enough to pour the milk or go get the mail. Now that you've made this choice and have become accountable, you are big!" It's true! (And it was such a good talk by Ky! Abe gave the other, excellent, talk on the Holy Ghost, and I must say I was very proud of my well-spoken sons.)
Church lighting: designed specifically to make people look pale and sickly? Seems like it must be.
I asked Ziggy who he wanted to invite to his baptism, and he said "All my friends!" and then proceeded to list off half the neighborhood. It is actually true that he knows everyone, and they know him! I don't even understand how it has happened, but he knows people I've never even met. And most of his friends are adults! I was a little dubious about inviting all of them, but for his sake I did it, and we had fifty people at the baptism! Even our wonderful next-door neighbor Tyson who told Sam "I haven't set foot in an LDS church in twenty years! It took 'Lord Zig' [his special nickname for Ziggy] to get me here." So wonderful.
A friend sent me a picture she'd secretly snapped of my three big boys. It made me so happy to see this little moment between them. I don't usually get pictures of such unguarded smiles!
I made a lot of orange rolls, at Zig's request, for after the baptism.
And we had a big happy crowd come to eat them!
Handsome men!
It was such a good day! And miraculously, we even managed a quick family picture!
