Children's voices in the orchard
Between the blossom- and the fruit-time:
Golden head, crimson head,
Between the green tip and the root.
Black wing, brown wing, hover over;
Twenty years and the spring is over;
To-day grieves, to-morrow grieves,
Cover me over, light-in-leaves;
Golden head, black wing,
Cling, swing,
Spring, sing,
Swing up into the apple-tree.

My kids have hardly seen me cleaning. I don't think they know what a broom's for, so I'll be #1 on your list, assuming they work for goldfish crackers and free swings on my swingset.
ReplyDeleteClearly your existing child labor ring is already very effective. That floor doesn't look like it needs much sweeping.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love your description of how you "encourage" the boys to want to help out. Hopefully mine will catch on some day. I had a heck of a time trying to get them to clean up their outdoor toys today.
I can't believe Malachi thinks he's a big boy already. Of course, with a baby coming I guess he is technically a big brother now. I want to be second on your list--and I don't need to wait for a perfected technique.
ReplyDeleteBeth, maybe they can be paid in those square cheese crackers. In which case, they already owe you about three years of servitude.
ReplyDeleteYes, Sign me up. My kids have not only seen me cleaning, but they've been paid for keeping this house together - like for twenty years. BUT NOW THEY'RE GONE. Having a child labor ring is no good once the escape.
