When baby Ezekiel was only three weeks old, our friend Tillie the Pig had another litter of piglets! 17 of them! So we decided to make the drive out to Erda and have my midwife Cathy give Ziggy his three-week checkup at her house instead of mine. We loved enjoying a Fall day at her peaceful farm and holding the cute little squealing, squirming piggies (along with our own little Ziggy-pig, of course!).
Some pig!
Oh Tillie. Such a good mama!
The piglets were SO screamy and wiggly, the kids could hardly hold them. Goldie and Teddy were too taken aback by all the squealing! But Junie didn't mind. She loves them so.
I got to hold the piggies too. And I loved it. Have you ever held a pig? They feel so funny! Not at all like a soft little floppy puppy or kitten. They are SOLID; it's like holding a cylinder of concrete! Except warm and a little fuzzy on the outside. They have such strong little muscles underneath that soft skin! The piglets were lots calmer when Cathy or I held them. Somehow they seemed to know (and take advantage of the fact by being more squirmy than ever!) when they were being held by one of the kids.
It was adorable how they all liked to sleep cuddled up right next to their warm mama. They would jostle for position, stacking themselves on top of each other and each trying to wiggle in closest to Tillie. It reminded me just exactly of how Ziggy likes to nestle in next to ME! And once when Tillie rolled over a bit in her sleep, exposing her side, the piglets all woke up immediately and started rooting around and trying to nurse! Tillie, who had intended no such thing, snorted grumpily at them and rolled back to her tummy so they couldn't reach. It was so funny!
Teddy was super excited about "driving" the tractor.
And Seb helped weigh Ziggy for his exam.
Such a fun day!
