Every year around the end of summer, the girls get out the tent so they can sleep in the backyard. These poor children have never been "real camping" (except—yes they have—at girls' camp! But not with our family), thanks to DAISY who screamed the whole night last time we went (Sebastian's fifth birthday) and made me vow to never do that again! Ha! Maybe now, sixteen years later, I might consider getting over that traumatic incident? Maybe.
At any rate. Backyard tent-sleeping is nearly as good as camping (if not better?) and it's become a fun tradition for the kids. Usually the girls set up the tent and sleep in it for a few nights, and then the little kids get a turn for a few nights, and they all love it. I love seeing the tent sitting out there in the moonlight, and going out to tuck everyone in, and hearing through the kitchen window the barely-suppressed laughter floating out of the tent, disturbing all the crickets and katydids and their peaceful night noises. Good times.
Tent Part I
Tent Part II
They certainly do know how to make themselves snug, don't they?
Let us peek into a few more of our days and ways lately:
Zig made what he called a "bowling machine" (which was really more like a ball toss) out of rainbow blocks, and was working on it and fine-tuning it for several days that week. It ended up being pretty cool, with ramps inside that would return the ball to the front of the machine, and different types of entry holes which were worth different numbers of points. He collared anyone he could to come and play it, and then gave encouraging comments as you played. Fun.
We got "first day of school ice cream" (that's a thing, right?) at Macey's
These silly two squeeeeezed themselves into the car cart. I don't know how.

We had more thunderstorms! Hooray! We were meticulously warned and kept abreast of their movements and developments from afar by Seb, which makes it kind of exciting—to know a storm is coming and watch for it! Sam saw these menacing clouds over our neighborhood as he was driving home from BYU.
Some people like to go into the downpour and get soaked. Well…why not?
The kids went out in great hope that the dip would be flooded again.
And hooray! It was!
The pictures are blurry, but I hope they give you a glimpse of the unbridled joy…
…not to say wild frolicking…
that took place in the downpour.
The "other dip" did not disappoint either!
The kids were joined by ducks (who were none too happy about "their pond" being invaded, but then, ducks never are)

I love it when the light comes through the back of the clouds like this

A new playground we found…
…with a splash pad! We had one last hurrah before it closed for the Fall.

I'm taking a French class with Daisy at BYU! It's fun being on campus again. On our first day we got free donuts, which bodes well, don't you think?
